Guide to creating custom manager portraits for Bundesliga Manager Hattrick



With this guide, you can create your own manager portraits for Bundesliga Manager Hattrick and add them to the game. This tutorial walks you through the complete process from photo to finished manager portrait in the game.



Required Programs and Files

📁 Programs and things you need schrieb:
  • GIMP - download and install
  • Paint.NET - download and install
  • BMH Color Palette for GIMP - download and copy to the GIMP folder
  • Convert Tool - must be extracted with WinRAR or WinZip, copy extracted folder to C drive

📁 Installing the Color Palette schrieb:
The color palette must be placed in the GIMP folder. Go to Program Files (C drive) and find the GIMP folder. Then go to Share → GIMP 2.8.6 → palettes. Copy the file to the palettes folder.

Example path: Program Files → GIMP-2.0 → Share → 2.0 → palettes



Step-by-Step Guide

1. Prepare VGA file
First, go to your BMH folder and then to the KB folder. Find the 26.vga file. Copy it and paste it into the Convert folder on C drive.

2. Start Command Prompt
Start the Command Prompt: STARTAll ProgramsAccessories.

3. Convert VGA to BMP
Enter the command line and press Enter:
vga_to_bmp -p h 26.vga 26.bmp

⚠️ Important schrieb:
KEEP THE BMP FILE IN THE CONVERT FOLDER!!!

4. Edit photo with Paint.NET
Open your photo with Paint.NET (or another image editing program). The important thing is that it has the dimensions 38x38 at the end.

Resize: Go to ImageResize → Set values to 38 and press OK. Then save the image.

5. Merge with Paint
After resizing the photo to 38x38, open it with Paint (Start → All Programs → Accessories).

Next, also open 26.BMP. To see everything better, zoom in with the magnifying glass. Now copy your photo and paste it into the 26.BMP image and save.

6. Convert with GIMP
Now go to the Convert folder and open the edited 26.BMP with GIMP.

After you've done that, go to ImageMode and then click on Indexed.

Then a window opens. There you select Use custom palette. Then BMH palette (256) and press convert.

After you've done that, go to ImageMode again and then to RGB.

Now click Export As (not regular Save).

Then click Export.

✅ Verification schrieb:
If you've done everything correctly, the 26.BMP file should be approximately 58kb.

7. Convert BMP back to VGA
Now the Command Prompt comes into play again. Enter the command line:
bmp_to_vga -p h 26.bmp 26.vga

8. Insert file into game
Now just copy the new 26.vga to the KB folder (BMH) and replace it.

Always make a backup copy of the original file before replacing it!



Done!

Your own manager portrait is now available in the game. Start Bundesliga Manager Hattrick and create a new manager - your personal photo should now be available as an option.



Tips for Better Results

  • Image quality: Use photos with good contrast and clear facial features
  • Lighting: Even lighting without strong shadows works best
  • Background: A uniform background makes editing easier
  • Centering: Make sure the face is centered in the 38x38 pixel frame



With your personalized manager portrait, the gaming experience becomes even more authentic.
