No, just use the Play Online button in the main menu.

In NHL 09, the online mode is not working by default. You need to fix the .exe file.

Plus, if you have Wi-Fi, you need a program that acts as a host. I recommend Radmin VPN. Previously, All used LogMein Hamachi, but it is not as stable as Radmin.

The only way online works for us is thru the online league commissioner mode.
