I went thrifting and found a copy of EA Sports '08 collection (which was missing FIFA and had an extra retail Madden), and have been playing NHL08 a lot since I got it to relatively work... yesterday. There's a few issues with it that I couldn't manage to fix myself, and when I tried to install the game on Windows, the install didn't even work.
Issues that I found:
- I had no audio.
- Some textures were causing parts of the models to go invisible.
- Mostly noticed on player numbers / names, however it would happen to seemingly everything.
- Luckily no model went completely invisible, and it only happened to players, not the rink or puck, or ref for what I could tell.
- If the game lost focus it was basically crashed.
- Window would go completely black and small.
- [Menu] Only way to fix it would be to close the window, which worked once and crashed once a game started.
- [Gameplay] No way to fix it that I found.
I'm assuming that it's probably something wrong with Wine (never got it to work via Proton), and wonder if anyone knows how to get it to work.
Basically, does anyone know how to get 08 running on a modern computer? Either Windows or Linux, however since I don't use Windows all that much, preferably Linux (I'll take anything that works though). The only issue that I really actually care about is the lack of audio, so if someone knows how I can get audio to work that'd be splended. I can live with the rest, but I really want game audio, as sound is one of the most important parts of the game to me, namely goal horns and whistles and such.
I might end up trying the '09 Modern mods that are here, but I don't have a disk of the game so I haven't tried it yet (the high seas might be talked to soon). If it's known that those mods work well on Linux that'd be epic and I'd probably very quickly give up on '08... assuming I can get my hands on '09 somehow.
