  • Well, when I say "new to 09" what I mean is that I'm new on this site but I played 09 (and more than ten years before it) when it came out.

I sort of stumbled on this community in my search to go out and replay older sports games. Basically, in every sport, there is a game that outplays today's offerings. I remember 09 and the idea of being able to play up to date rosters sounds amazing. I don't know why but I'm having a really hard time finding files to download. It seems all the old sites I used to go to are gone. But the community here seems to be well versed. Can someone help me understand a few things?
    1. What's the status of updates for the NHL in 09? Basically, can you make a 2017-18 season or has the game not been updated that thoroughly?

    2. Is there another site that focuses more on NHL updates than on european leagues? Like, I said, all my old sites are gone. It had been a while since I visited them.

    3. Does anyone know where all the files and tools went for NHL09 that were on other sites? Are they just gone for good?

Thanks for any help, anyone! Happy to be here.

  • Welcome to the community @tinpanalley. Would you be interested in playing online seasons mode with a group of 20-25 real GM's. We do an entry draft every season, manage the salary cap, and play online against each other. Most of our games are modded to today's uniforms, arenas, teams, etc.

If you are interested let me know and we can get you setup, the season is just starting.

    As for your questions...

thebreakaway used to be a huge NHL09 modding community, but has since shut down, taking along with it all the great mods that were posted there. Most are slowly coming back on this community, and another Russian site called Splinterice. These two sites are more geared toward European leagues, but there is some very good NHL mods on here too.

I have a full NHL package put together for our online seasons league, called VHA (Virtual Hockey Association).

Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi rjbox11 , thank you for the reply. To be honest, online play with other people isn't something I've ever been into. I prefer to play on my own. I had one instance of trying online play with different sports games a few years ago and realised it wasn't for me.
So, some NHL content is here. I checked out the Splinterice site but so much of it is in Russian, I don't even know how to register. But clearly the emphasis of both sites is european leagues which is fantastic actually, there is never enough representation of those leagues in NHL series mods so I'm glad it exists. I guess I will look to see if there is enough content to make a 2017 season. All I want is uniforms and rosters. Even if the faces weren't perfect I wouldn't care.

    Thank you!
