Season 9 offseason calendar

Here is a list of all events planned for this offseason, starting with new sign up post, including Entry Draft and UFA Frenzy (as well as a few surprises) all the way thru to the start of the season in late september/early october.

Here are a few offseason quick notes:

Trades are officially open. Once your deal is agreed upon, both GMs must send the request by email to the league admins for a panel review before approval/denial.

If you have a trade offer to a CPU team, send your request by email to the league admins for a panel review before approval/denial.

June 20 - S9 Contract buyouts

S9 Contract buyouts

As previously announced, VHA Teams will no longer be permitted to buyout a contract for free.

- Buyouts for players with a 2 year term (or more) will be 65% year 1 and 35% year 2

- Buyouts for players with a 1 year term will be 50% year 1 and 25% year 2

Having said that, you can still use your sub credits to lower the cost:

- a free buyout can be purchased with 30 sub credits

- a 50% buyout can be purchased with 15 sub credits

Buyouts cost is the same during the season and offseason.

July 3 - S9 Sub rewards payday

S9 sub credit rewards payout

Subbing has become one of the league"s keys to its success. Your sub helps your fellow GMs get their game played and in turn, as a token of appreciation, the league compensates you with a small reward in the form of a sub credit.

You sub once, you get a credit. You can turn that credit into draft picks. It's easy just like that.

Taking in consideration your report card grade, the league returns credits that can be use to purchase goodies, such as:

S8 GM of the Year award goes to....

This year's recipient' gameplay style is among the strongest in the league. He is able to play either a wide-open offensive style or a lock-down defensive style depending on his opponent and the game situation.

He remains aware of who is on the ice at all time, and is one of the best in the league at using his players appropriately for their player type and OA level.

CBA adjustments and release

July 24 - S9 Live Entry draft Rounds 1 to 3

S9 Entry Draft - Part 1 - Rounds 1, 2 and 3

This year's VHA Entry Draft will take place on Sunday July 24 - time TBD.

We will conduct 3 rounds of drafting.

This usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours, with occasional breaks.

In the event you can't attend, one of the admins will draft for you following your list.

Submit a draft list (and not just point at the NHL order) by friday July 22.

GMs that do not attend and do not send in their list on time will have their draft pick skipped…

Rounds 4 and 5 will take place on Sunday July 31 - 11AM ET.

This usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, with occasional breaks.

August 8: Start of S9 UFA Frenzy

VHA's UFA Frenzy is set to begin Sunday July 16 and should wrap up by July 24

Before each round

1) Before submitting offers, check your cap space (link TBD)

The sum total of your offers can never exceed your cap space amount.

Outstanding offers carry over to the next round, and are taken in consideration towards your total.

2) You may have high profile unsigned RFAs to consider

GMs should have a ballpark figure for these players and you are expected to have a reasonable amount leftover to sign these…

August 31 - VHA S9 Injury limbo list release

"injury limbo"

Players in "injury limbo" have either missed too many games last season or are expected to miss the entire next NHL season. Thus, they won't be eligible in VHA. Instead, they will be placed on LTIR (Long Term Injury Reserve) when your 23 man rosters are due. Their salary will be wiped from the team's payroll.

September 30 - Setting your 23 man roster, cap compliance, LTIR and waivers

The following events will occur in this order.

1) LTIR moves - Sept 23 to Sept 28

2) 23 man rosters - Sept 30


3) Waivers - Oct 1

4) Season starts - Oct 3

1) LTIR

Players listed in limbo status (here Injury limbo and injury watch ) will be moved to LTIR.

Their salary will come off the books.

Note that players listed in limbo will not be eligible to make your 23 man roster.
