  • It's now time to hand out the most prestigious award given out to the GM that has distinguished himself in all aspects of the league, from participation to gameplay to managing his team.

    - Participation wise during Season 9, this GM played all his 58 games and was top 5 in subs league wide.

    - On the gameplay front, he remains one of the most fun opponents to play in VHA. He is realistic about the players he uses to carry the puck into the zone vs. dump-and-chase and plays a clean style without any egregious open-ice hits, trips or other forms of nincompoopery.

    - When it comes to pre- and post-game chat, he might be the only legitimately courteous and respectful GM left in this damn league. He is easy to schedule with and makes himself available at various times of day for his opponents as much as possible.

    - He dealt with a very difficult situation in the playoffs in the appropriate manner, with class and decorum.

Most impressively, the year previous S8, we advocated for this GM to take baby steps towards participating in and contributing more towards VHA next year in Season 9.

To that, Gary said, "Baby steps? Hold my beer."

Please join me in congratulating this year's GM of the Year: Gary Baretto!

He joins the very elite category of Cup Winner AND GMotYear recipient.

    IT CAN BE DONE FOLKS!

Note that both runner ups (as well as at least 2 others) had phenomenal seasons and should be recognized as the cream of the crop:

Runner up #1: Denis (10 credits added)

Runner up #2: Roi (10 credits added)

Gary will be awarded 30 credits

Thank you and that is all...

  • This season has been a crazy roller coaster, here is a recap:

The VHA Oilers came to season 9 with not having any real expectations as they finished dead last place in season 8 of VHA.

Season 9 started out very weak with a

1-3-1 start. News sources were saying the GM of the Oilers risks getting fired if things do not change. This was Gary Barreto's 6th season with VHA and never went past the first round of the playoffs.

After the mid point of the season, the vha Oilers went on a stretch of 13-1-2 and an 11 game win streak with Khakonen taking over the starting position over Quick and Mcdavid tearing it up this year.

Entering the playoffs, this team was pumped, but very nervous after so many 1st round failures. They managed to get past CBJ, presidents trophy winner Toronto Maple Leafs (Lucas) in a stunning 7 game high scoring series, Carolina in another tight 7 game series where they were down 3-1 in the series and Minnisota* in 5 games to win the VHA Stanley cup for the first time in their history and a bunch of other idividual player awards.

Special shout out to the Admin team (Sergio, Bill, Matt and Lucas) for taking care of the league especially in the finals when you know who was doing you know what to all his playoff opponents. Also a Special thanks for making me the GM of the year, it is an honor to hold this award.

This will be a season to really remember and will be hard to ever match again, good luck to everyone in season 10!
